When will you winterize my irrigation system?

We start winterizing in mid-October and will conclude by mid-November. Keep in mind we service about 250 customers, you may be near the end. Don’t worry we will get your system winterized before inclement weather as long as you are on our list. Keep in mind the temperature needs to be in the mid 20’s for 4-6 hours before damage starts to occur. A quick drop in temperate overnight only to rise again the next day will not damage your system.

When will you conduct the back flow test?

We will test backflow devices during the spring opening in April and May.

Will you submit the back flow results for us?

Yes, we will send the completed back flow results to your local water company and provide a copy to you via email.

Why is back flow testing required?

To better understand why back flow testing is required it is important to first understand what the term “back flow” means.

Back flow is a term used in plumbing for an unwanted flow of water in the reverse direction. Water lines are under constant pressure and when a main water line burst either at your location or in a surrounding area water looses pressure and surrounding ground water, storage water, or water from other sources can be sucked backwards into the water line and potentially contaminate the fresh water feeding your home or surrounding water sources.

Regulations have been set in place by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, The Indiana Department of Health, and also the Indiana Plumbing code to protect our water supply. These regulations and obligations of the consumer are outlined here: https://www.in.gov/idem/cleanwater/files/ccc_backflow_prev_manual.pdf.

Additional information about backflow prevention and commonly asked questions can be found here: https://www.citizensenergygroup.com/My-Home/Utility-Services/Water/Backflow-Prevention.

If you live outside of Indianapolis check with your local water municipality for a list of regulations and rules concerning backflow
